Kempton Park is an area that was the creation and brain child of SH Hyde, a 19th century businessman and a Tory party agent, who leased the Park and Manor and in July 1878 Kempton opened as a Kempton Park Racecourse. The Christmas meeting is unquestionably the highlight of Kempton, with past winner s of the King George being the famous Desert Orchid, four time winner and forever remembered at the course with a statue beside the paddock.
